Cordova is a vibrant community in Shelby County, Tennessee, located just east of Memphis and near Germantown, Bartlett, and Collierville. Our town is known for its friendly residents and rich history, offering a perfect blend of suburban living and urban convenience.

Noah plays a key role in shaping Cordova’s voice and identity leading outreach efforts while designing our logos, monthly newsletters, and community materials. He proudly initiated the petition for Cordova at the start of 2024, helping spark momentum for the community’s future.

Our History

Founded in 1835, Cordova, TN, began as a small farming village and grew into a thriving residential and commercial suburb of Memphis. Originally called Allentown, then Marysville and Dexter, it became Cordova in 1903 to avoid confusion with another town on the railroad.

Cordova Areas Within City Limits

Several neighborhoods and main roads in Cordova fall under the City of Memphis, including:

  • All of Germantown Parkway
  • A large portion of Dexter Road
  • North Houston Levee Road near Highway 64
  • Much of Walnut Grove Road on Germantown Rd

Residents in these areas receive city services but also pay both city and county taxes.

Unincorporated Areas of Cordova

Some parts of Cordova are unincorporated and under Shelby County, including:

  • Appling Road near Cordova Road
  • South Cordova (South Forest Hill-Irene and Walnut Grove)
  • North Houston Levee road up to just past Dexter Rd
  • Charles Bryan Road and areas west toward Whitten Road
  • Homes around Shelby Farms within 38018

How to Know If You’re in City or County?

Not sure whether your home is in the City of Memphis or unincorporated Shelby County? One of the easiest ways to tell is by police jurisdiction:

  • City of Memphis residents are served by the Memphis Police Department.
  • Unincorporated areas are served by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Cordova’s Two Zipcodes

Cordova has two main ZIP codes: 38016 and 38018. With a population of over 85,000 residents, roughly 5–6,000 live in unincorporated Shelby County, while the rest are within city limits. If your ZIP code is 38016 or 38018, you are part of the Cordova community!
